On Wednesday, 10th November, the students of M4 presented a moving and thoughtful memorial service for Remembrance Day.

Once again, we need to thank the 10/27th Battalion for supporting the school.

Many thanks to the guest speaker, Lt Matt Zovi who spoke about the comradeship and importance of Remembrance Day.

Musician Michael Bampton played the last post and the revele which was inspiring.

Carolyn Powers, the local member for Elder also spoke to the students about empathy and the importance to remember the fallen.

Fundraising News!

Wow, what a busy start to Term 4!

Firstly, we would like to thank everyone who attended the WPPS Quiz Night 2021 on Saturday evening, and also to those who supported our Online Auction from home.

Thanks to ticket sales, games and activities, auction bids and other generous monetary donations, we raised more than $10,000 that will go towards improving our school facilities! Such an incredible outcome to come from a fun-filled event. Nights like these do not go ahead without considerable forward planning and support from school families and our community.

A special mention must go to our amazing Quiz Master Steve for his time and efforts on the night – he did an excellent job keeping the event rolling along smoothly, with plenty of extra fun between those quiz rounds. Thank you Steve!

We would also like to specifically acknowledge and thank our school community parents, families and local businesses, for their generous donations to our Quiz Night and Online Auction (A full list is attached). Please note that every endeavour is made to recognise and acknowledge all donations received. If your donation is not listed in the attached document, please contact the front office and it will be added immediately.

All of our Quiz Night attendees out-did themselves in terms of costumes, props and decorations – what an extremely creative bunch of people the WPPS school community are! From dinosaurs to bugs to fairy floss, Dolly Parton to Freddie Mercury to Amelia Earheart, cowboys to Romans to cavemen - this year’s Quiz Night saw it all … and then some! And with only 2 points separating third and first place, it was a very close competition. But in the end, the lucky winners to take home the trophy were ……. Wax On Wax Off!  A big congratulations to you all! And congratulations must also go to the winners of the “Best Dressed Team” ……. Quizzical Artefacts!

Please note that items purchased from the Online Auction are available for collection from the Front Office. Payment will need to be made prior to or at collection - EFT preferred.

What a night it was – thank you again to everyone involved!

But there’s no time to rest this term … The WPPS Colour Run has now been posponed due to bad weather.  It will now be held on Wednesday, 17th November down at the school oval. The students will be making their way through different obstacles, all the while getting covered in bright and wonderful colours! All funds raised will go towards upgrades to the Marlborough building (including a larger Performing Arts area).

To donate, simply head to www.gofundme.com/f/wpps-colour-run-2021. Remember to include the student’s CLASS you are supporting, as the students are also competing to be the class who raise the highest average per child. The top 3 classes across the school will be announced as soon as the final figures are calculated!

  • 1st Prize - Class pizza party, fairy floss and the opportunity to SLIME JASON and other members of staff during a whole school assembly.
  • 2nd Prize - Class pizza party and fairy floss.
  • 3rd Prize - Fairy floss class party.

As always, we thank you for your support and generosity – especially during this very busy time of year!

Bike Ed

This term, the year 5 students have been participating in the Way to go Bike Ed program which is endorsed by Bike SA, the RAA and the South Australian Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure promoting a safer, greener and more active travel.

The students had the opportunity to have free lessons starting with a free bike roadworthiness check by the RAA. They have been learning about road rules, safety and cycling skills. The lessons have been strengthening the student’s awareness and confidence of cycling out on the road from using the correct hand signals to understanding road signs. The final lessons the students’ ventured out on to local roads. Hopefully we will see more students ride to school.

Australian Army visits M4

On the 28/10/21, Lieutenant Matt Zovi from the 10/27th battalion visited our classroom to talk about his work in the Australian Army. We learnt that he is an engineer. He showed us some of his gear and his field packs for when he goes out field or employed overseas.

Lieutenant Zovi also answered some questions like where did you start his training in the Army and he replied with the school of military engineering in Sydney. His favourite part about engineering in the army was blowing stuff up and to making new bridges and buildings.

Lieutenant Matt Zovi will be at the Remembrance Day assembly on Wednesday 10th of November he will be the guest speaker along with musician Michael Bampton.

School Banking Update

The last day for School Banking at WPPS this term will be Thursday, 2nd December.

The last day to order banking rewards will be Thursday 18th November. If you are currently eligible for a reward you can drop your reward slip into the school office any time before then, or with your deposit on the 18th.

There will be no school banking in 2022.

A message from the Commonwealth Bank

For 90 years, our School Banking program has helped children learn about money, reinforced the importance of regular savings and provided structure for parents to support their children to save.

Though the program continues to have strong support from schools, parents and teachers, recent decisions by some state and territory governments because of a review by the corporate regulator mean we are unable to continue providing programs in schools, and we have had to make a difficult decision to close our School Banking program for all government and non-government schools across the country.

Our School Banking program was established in 1931 at a time when having a bank account was not commonplace, and since then we have helped more than 15 million Australians take their first financial steps. This would not have been possible without the wonderful support we have received from schools like yours, including all the parents and volunteers, and for this we are deeply grateful. Thank you.

Even though this is a sad time, School Banking has taught so many young Australians, past and present, the value of money and we believe this should be celebrated. We have created a place for you to share your stories, fondest memories and lessons learnt through the program. To share your story and access our financial education resources, please visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking

Even though the CommBank School Banking program will not be returning to your school after this year, you can continue to make deposits into your child’s Youthsaver account through online transfers or at any CommBank branch. If you need further information please phone 132 221 or visit your local CommBank branch.
