Parking and Road Safety

It is important to ensure that the pedestrian/school crossings are used when crossing all streets surrounding the school.  

There is no car parking available on site for parents/caregivers.  Please note that the car parks are not a drop off zone.  The staff car park on the corner of Goodwood Rd and Marlborough St can only be accessed of OSHC before 7:45am and after 4:00pm.  

Parents/caregivers are asked to observe the parking restrictions in the adjacent streets, as Mitcham Council inspectors patrol the streets independently and may impose traffic fines on those parking illegally.  Please observe restrictions, as the safety of our students is paramount. Please note the school has no involvement or control over these street and traffic operations, parking, inspections or fines.

M3 Art Gallery

In M3 last term, we explored elements of colour, shape and texture as part of our Visual Arts lessons. After studying the Artist Pete Cromer, we put on our own Art Gallery of work inspired by his works.

Camp Quality

In week 2, we had David and Eddie from Camp Quality present two engaging puppet shows about cancer. The Camp Quality presentations focus on telling the broader cancer story in a child-friendly way, including how to support someone who is facing their own cancer diagnosis or that of a loved one. Apple Picking at "Pick Your Own", Lenswood

On Wednesday 28th May, students from LC1, LC2, and J3 visited Pick Your Own in Lenswood for an apple-picking excursion. As part of the experience, students toured the orchard, learned how apples are grown and harvested, and discovered the steps involved in getting them from the farm to the supermarket.

They tasted different apple varieties, sampled freshly pressed apple juice, and explored some of the old tractors once used on the farm. Before heading back to school, each student picked their own Pink Lady apples to take home.

It was a great hands-on learning experience that connected our Design and Technology Unit of Food and Fibre.

When we went apple picking, we got to try the apple juice and try a Granny Smith apple that we picked ourselves. My favourite thing was picking our own apples – Max

Somethings that I enjoyed at apple picking was picking, eating and discovering different things about the unique apples. Something else I enjoyed was drinking their apple juice. It was sweeter and fresher. It seemed more natural. The last thing I enjoyed was learning the history of the tractors – Ada

I learned that there are lots of different types of Pink Lady apples. I really enjoyed the tractor demonstration – Ava

I really enjoyed drinking the delicious apple juice made from their apples and picking them too. We went for a walk and got told how the apples are planted, what types there, when and how they are harvested. We also got showed a tractor show and learned about some old tractors they used hundreds of years ago - Lucy

At our school we highly value all from within our community who give freely of their time by assisting in class, attending excursions/camps, managing lost property, preparing food and serving in our canteen, supporting Pedal Prix, coaching or managing our sporting teams or are involved in one of the many school committees.

Volunteering enables you to build connections, enhances your wellbeing and brings people together from across many different backgrounds.

Pedal Prix

The 3 Pedal Prix teams went up to the Bend Race track on Saturday May 17 to compete in Race 1 of the series. Race 1 was a 6 hour race and Westbourne Park had 2 teams competing in the Open Primary Schools category and 1 in the All Female category. The first few riders had to compete with pretty inclement weather, as the first hour or so of the race was hampered by persistent rain, but the riders did an amazing job to keep the bikes on track. As the rain cleared the Westbourne Park teams slowly moved through the field with all the riders doing an amazing job on a 2.8km track with racers from all age groups, including adult teams. The teams should be so proud of their efforts, Team Airbourne ended up 2nd overall in the Primary Schools, after leading for much of the day, even beating many high school teams. The All Female team, Westwind, finished 3rd in their category and Team Turbo finished 10th. A fantastic result! Everyone is looking forward to the 2nd race at Victoria Park in a couple of weeks. Thanks to all the parents who came and supported and helped out on the day, it was a huge team effort.

Canteen News

Thank you to everyone who purchased a Show Down Donut for their child, the winner by a rather large margin were the Adelaide Crows.

My Winter Menu is now in full swing with warming soups, hearty curries and a variety of pasta options available. Qkr will display which items are available daily and the Term 2 Menu can be viewed on the school website.

I have recently expanded the range of Gluten Free items that are available to include wraps, pizzas and pasta. If there are items that you would like to see available for your child to order or have any feedback for the canteen I can be reached via wpps.canteen286@schools.sa.edu.au

Foodbank Winter Food Drive

The canteen will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries on behalf of Foodbank.

They are currently urgently seeking donations of tinned vegetables, fruit, tuna, beans and spaghetti along with pasta sauce, pasta and rice.

Donations can be dropped off to the canteen any time this term and will be delivered to Foodbank at the end of Term2.

Quiz Night

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported our annual Quiz Night! As usual, it was an amazing event with lots of quizzing, huge costume efforts, outstanding karaoke, generosity, and tons of laughs. Congratulations to the “WPPS Trophy Cabinet” for taking out the win, but the most coveted prize is always Best Dressed, so a big congrats also to “Taxidermy Trivia Titans” who beat the competition! And of course a huge thank you must also go to our generous community who donated items to our online auction.

We raised approximately $12,000 for our school community which is an unbelievable effort by all!

Scholastic Book Fair

Our Scholastic Book Fair in the Library has just finished and every book sold help us to buy books for our school library. I would like to thank parents, students and staff for being so generous once again with supporting our book fair. 

If your child missed out on the Fair, there will still be Book Club twice a Term!

PJ Day Fundraiser Success!

A huge thank you to our school community for getting behind our recent PJ Day fundraiser! Organised by our amazing Student Representative Council (SRC), the day saw students and staff come to school dressed in their cosiest pyjamas, all in support of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. With gold coin donations and delicious hot chocolates from the canteen, we are thrilled to share that we raised $611! The SRC chose this cause as many students reflected on the positive impact the hospital has had on their own lives and those of their families. We are so proud of our students for showing kindness, leadership, and community spirit!

Auskick

Last week Auskick and Superkick clinics commenced for students participating in the programs. It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm of the children as they learnt new skills.

SAPSASA Football Carnival

This week, 3 of our talented boys' Charlie D, Angus S and Zac R-T proudly represented our district team, City South in the boys team at the SAPSASA Football Carnival. With dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship, they showcased their skills on the field. A great experience as they competed against the best from across the region. 

Statewide School Football Yr 5/6 Girls

Congratulations to our Yr5/6 girls on being selected as part of our school team who played a game against Fulham North Primary School this week.  Well done girls, great team effort!
