Pastoral Care Worker

At Westbourne Park Primary School we are committed to supporting the wellbeing of our students.

As part of the National Student Wellbeing Program (NSWP), we are pleased to have a dedicated Pastoral Care Worker (PCW) within our team. This initiative is further supported by additional funding from our school and local churches, reflecting our community's commitment to nurturing a supportive and caring environment for all students.

The role of a PCW involves:

  • Working closely and in partnership with leadership and other school staff to provide pastoral care and practical support to students, staff and families as requested.
  • Building relationships through supporting and participating in a range of extra-curricular events and activities across the school community.
  • Offering a listening ear to students, staff and families who may be experiencing difficult circumstances.
  • Being a positive role model and assisting students in developing social skills and building positive relationships.
  • Providing pastoral care in a ‘first response’ capacity to critical incidents, referring to specialist support as needed, and offering ongoing presence and follow up.
  • Strengthening ties between the school, families and the wider community and providing a link to resources and support services.
  • Collaborating with staff to implement programs and activities that promote positive mental health and wellbeing.

The presence of a PCW at our school ensures that students have access to additional support, helping them to thrive both academically and personally. We believe that a strong foundation of wellbeing is essential for student success, and our PCW is an integral part of achieving this goal.
